Dead at last

Filed under: Dead Like Me — JeniQ @ 2:10 am

So, tonight I finally finished the last of Dead Like Me. What a great show. I love Mandy Patinkin, Ellen Muth, and Callum Blue. The characters are so true and the mythology is so interesting. One of my all-time favorite shows ever.

Helloooo Birdie!

Filed under: Birds — JeniQ @ 4:22 pm
We got home last night and switched on the TV to see if momma bird was home – we were stunned at what we saw.

I think that the bluebird will lay an egg a day for 3-5 days until she has her entire clutch, then she’ll start incubating them. This is so cool! Dave named the first egg “Eggbert,” naturally.

So flippin’ cool.

Here’s momma bird peeking her head out of her house.

Sunday Evening Cookout with the Neighbors

Bernie and Paul came over and so did David and Lisa, who brought her grandparents. They were adorable! We grilled out chicken and shrimp, and Bernie and Paul brought baked beans and sugar peas. We had a really nice time, talking and talking after dinner, and Dave served up the Carrot Cake, which was a big hit, too.

Lisa’s grandfather couldn’t figure out why Bernie and Paul lived in the same house. Heh.

Sunday Morning, Chillin’

Chillin’ on the couch, watching the birds.

Look at Cayce’s little “chicken leg.” This is where they applied the pain patch, which he removed the first night.

High Line Festival

I got really excited today when I learned about the High Line Festival at the DavidBowie.com website. I mean, I was ready to book tickets to New York and put a note in my calendar to buy tickets for the show when they go on sale.
But then I looked at the artist list and he’s not actually playing. I’m sure he’d be around, but, nah, I don’t think I’d really run into him, or if I did, it would be one of those 30 seconds of panic.

So, no, not for me. But I love how young he looks on the home page – it’s the first picture in the montage so if you missed it, try refreshing the page. He does not look like this now!

I think this is a more current picture:

Hey, let’s face it, he’s 60.

The other thing that makes me laugh is his bio. Isn’t this just the funniest summation of his career?

“Between the late 60s and the mid-70s, he experimented with multi-media, also recording the albums The Man Who Sold The World, Space Oddity, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Station to Station and Young Americans.”

As if recording his albums were an afterthought. Heh.
Oh well, I guess I’ll just keep dreaming about couldabeens.

Walking Initiative

Filed under: Exercise — JeniQ @ 1:35 pm

Ok, so here’s how my 15 minute walking plan went last week.
Monday — Dave and I took a 15 minute walk after work, before dinner.
Tuesday — I met Dave at Sawmill for dinner. I arrived before he did, and I knew he would be later than me, so I took my 15 minute walk in a neighborhood next to the shopping center.
Wednesday — Yoga night so I knew I wouldn’t have time after work. I took a 15 minute powerwalk with a co-worker at 3 PM.
Thursday — Didn’t happen, but Dave got his 15 minutes in after dinner.
Friday — Didn’t happen.
Saturday — I spent nearly 8 hours with the worms. Between that and getting ready for our dinner guests, it didn’t happen.
Sunday — We took a 20 minute bike ride!

We’ll see how this week goes…

Saturday Night Birthday Celebration!

Saturday night we celebrated Gene’s 80th birthday and the kitties 9th birthdays. Dave fixed his famous 5 layer lasagne. It’s 4″ deep! I help by making the sauce but he makes and assembles the rest. Dave also made a carrot cake in his new bundt pan. I made a chopped salad and some very tasty garlic bread.
We made Gene a jazz mix cd (what do you get someone who’s 80?!) and mom got some fun toys for the cats.

More surgery for Cayce

Filed under: Cats — JeniQ @ 4:12 pm
On Friday, Cayce went in for his annual dental cleaning. He had a lump on his back, between his shoulder blades, that appeared after his surgery in October. The doctor looked at it and decided it needed to come off. She ended up taking some discolored fat and “possible lymph node” with it. This, she explained, was why the incision was so long. All three specimens were sent off for biopsy.
