Feels great to be so productive!
Awesome trip to the state farmers market this morning. Apples are in season and ever so tasty! We got five pounds of mixed Rome, winesap, jonagold, mutsu, arkansa black apples for $5! We also picked up pork tenderloins for $4.50 per pound. Also in our haul were a few pounds of bacon for the feezer, brats and andouille sausage, and white sweet potatoes for Dave’s mom.
Henry was just awesome and loved looking around at so many new things. What a great way to start the day!
Ele just posted about their resolution to buy nothing new for the month of October. I’m not going to commit to that, but I will think about the concept by listing here what I have bought.
One of my excuses for buying new is that it’s just easier than combing thrift stores, CraigsList and Freecycle. Back in the day, I would totally spend the time to hunt thrift stores and other bargains, but these days it seems we’re just so pressed for time.
P.S. What’s up with this frugal chic thing? Does anyone who’s really broke think it’s so cool?

Did I mention how cool Dave is? He made me an awesome dinner and a spectacular cake for my birthday, and had Mom arrive just in time to celebrate with us.
The cake is called “In the Pink” and is from a Duncan Hines cake mix cookbook. It’s a lemon cake with a layer of pink lemonade ice cream and pink lemon frosting. I LOVED it!! Super yummy! He is so talented!
This cake was way better than the one David Bowie made for me.
The cake went perfectly with my kushy new Red Envelope slippers from my nephews, Nolan and Jonah!
Oh, and dinner was broiled fish with a healthy grain and vegetable medley. But it wasn’t as good as the cake. 🙂
Am listening to the David Bowie station on LastFM. A Roxy Music song just came up, and when the artist changes, the bio information displays for that artist.
As I read this, I finished the sentence in my head…

It’s my birthday. I started off the day with breakfast in bed, thanks to my honey and my baby boy. 😉 Love you two!
Dave wanted mellow mushroom for dinner but I hate fighting with the traffic, the parking, and having to wait for a table. Plus little Henry makes it harder to wait to get sat. So we headed to the Mushroom down in Durham’s historic tobacco district. Yay for no waiting! It was a million times better than hitting south Glenwood.
(Don’t forget to ask them to add cinnamon to your Hawaiian pizza!)
While up in Cleveland, we got to see the Cleveland Air Show. It was, in the true sense of the word, awesome. This included a display by the Blue Angels.
I was a bit overwhlemed with the patriotic, nationlistic pride I felt at this awesome display of force. I frequently get teary-eyed at, well, lots of things, to be truthful, and this one was right up there. Go Team America!
