"…bears, oh my!"

Filed under: Uncategorized — JeniQ @ 8:10 pm

Check this out. If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, let me clarify.
It is a very tacky fountain placed in front of a neighbor’s house. Why? I can’t imagine. I know my tastes aren’t for everybody, but I just thought living in this fancy neighborhood meant no cars up on blocks and no tacky bear fountains, too.

Here, maybe you could use a closeup.

Rollerderby Queens!

Filed under: Uncategorized — JeniQ @ 4:52 pm

Sunday night we went to the last Carolina Rollergirls event at the Skate Ranch before they move to the Dorton Arena. I couldn’t find anyone who would go with me so I dragged Dave. He’s such a good husband. However, he was very disappointed that there was no beer at the Skate Ranch. When I told him they serve beer at Dorton arena, he actually sounded excited about the possibility of seeing the girls skate again. Teflon Donna’s my new favorite jammer!

I really loved the “girl power” feel of the rollerderby. It made me all emotional to see those girls out there, all different shapes and sizes, flaunting their stuff and having everyone love them for it. I got all misty-eyed. I think there’s got to be some hormonal imbalance there. Anyway, who’s up for a skate party??

Sunday Afternoon

I went to the Raleigh Comic Book Show on Sunday around noon. I was excited because I got Elfquest 3 and 4 (though not the Donning publications) for $10 each. Not bad! 🙂 It’s so nice to have those books in full color. I also picked up several issues of A Distant Soil. I don’t know much about that series but seems interesting.

I was a little nervous about going to the show, not sure what to expect. But most everyone was nice and no one made fun of me for wanting to buy comic books – imagine that. 🙂

Saturday Night with Amkor

Filed under: Uncategorized — JeniQ @ 8:53 pm

Saturday night was the annual get-together for Dave’s company, Amkor. They hosted a fun and food event at the Durham Life and Science Museum. It was really nice!! The food was OK, hotdogs and hamburgers, but it was great getting to have free run of the museum and watching all the kids run around having such a great time.

Some highlights…

Where they faked the moon landing

An amazing colony of leaf-cutter ants

And what apparently was part of David Bowie’s costume from The Man Who Fell To Earth

I’ll post more later.

Friday Night Switcheroo

Filed under: Uncategorized — JeniQ @ 3:20 pm

Instead of falling into the old trap of going out to dinner on Friday night, we went to the grocery and then came home and cooked. This was nice because we tend to put off grocery shopping until far too late in the weekend, and it was nice to get it out of the way.

Dinner was Red Snapper Livornese. I added zuchinni and broccoli stems and red peppers, and I didn’t follow the recipe that well, but it was de-lish. The aroma while it was cooking smelled just like the inside of a fancy restaurant! I served the vegetables and fish over angel hair pasta with a light broth.

Unfortunately, the fish didn’t turn out very good at all. It was rubbery and had none of the flavor of the vegetables and broth. I’m blaming it on bad fish, but if you have a suggestion for what bad cooking method results in rubbery fish, share it with me.

Stickin’ it to Thursday

Filed under: Uncategorized — JeniQ @ 3:09 pm

Thursday night we went out to dinner at the Lynnwood Grill, fondly known as The Bar.

Mmm, a nice pitcher of Endo Cottonwood, a BLT with cheese, and pickle chips. Tasty!

We got to see Alissa and chat with her, which was nice. Tried calling a few people but nobody was available to come out and play.

Then we went home and watched another silly episode of Eureka.
