More E&A Updates – Flea Market

Saturday we spent a few hours at the Flea Market. Everybody got something they were really happy with. Dave got a bottle of some old 7-Up soft drink branded for the Cleveland Browns. He was delighted!

I got a waist apron for $10. I’ve been wanting a very traditional waist apron and I think this is perfect. I purchased it from a woman at the flea market that I used to patronize frequently. She’s really sweet and I like shopping from her. Check out the print – it’s a Floridian print with ships off the coast in the distance, pumas, tropical trees and oranges. I really love it.
Apparently, Claudia McGraw is from Black Mountain, North Carolina and had a storied history of making aprons for Eleanor Roosevelt. I don’t have any corroborating evidence of this, so if you have more free time than me, you can let us know if you can find any. 🙂
AND I found this amazing mixer from the 70s. It’s a J.C. Penney’s wall-mount mixer in brilliant orange. It opens to reveal the removable cord and beaters. Isn’t it beautiful?! It works, too. I checked.

Amber and Eric found a really pretty vase for cheap, and Kerri found the perfect necklace she’d been looking for. Yay!!!

Artsplosure

Saturday afternoon we went to Artsplosure! It was a cute little art festival held in downtown Raleigh. I bought some earrings from a guy who makes them out of spoons, knives and forks. Fun!
And we saw this cool owl and hawk.
Then to the Flying Saucer for dinner, and to continue drinking.

And yeah, there were some Civil War reenactors there, so we got their picture with KerBear. 🙂

Sunday Brunch to Celebrate Ele’s Birthday

Ele sweetly invited Dave and I to her birthday brunch on Sunday (Mother’s Day). We went to Humble Pie. She had cute little seating cards for all of us and was dressed in her fabulous new dress. She’s such a cute girlie-girl!

It’s been ages since I had brunch at Humble Pie, and it was tasty! We had a really nice time. We got to talk with Will’s mom and her husband, Will and Ele, Will’s little sister, and Molly and Matthew. We couldn’t really hear the rest of the table. I enjoyed talking with Molly and Matthew, they seem like a sweet couple. I learned that Molly sometimes reads my blog, so a shout out to you, Molly! 🙂

Kerri, did you know that you you can skip the salad and just get the croutons at Lynnwood?

Thought it might make you happy!

Saturday – BodyWorlds and Flying Saucer

Saturday morning Larry fixed these fabulous breakfast sandwiches – sausage, egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel. Yummy!!

Then it was off to Body Worlds for our 1:30 entrance. It was a very cool exhibit – we got to see all sorts of human bodies in various poses and different states of dissection, from muscles to organs. It was outta control and very interesting.

However, no photography allowed, so no pictures.

Then off to the Saucer for a “snack.” While there, I snapped a picture of Hiroe’s engagement ring – so beautiful!!
Then, we took a picture of this guy’s leprechaun shoes.

Sunday Evening Cookout with the Neighbors

Bernie and Paul came over and so did David and Lisa, who brought her grandparents. They were adorable! We grilled out chicken and shrimp, and Bernie and Paul brought baked beans and sugar peas. We had a really nice time, talking and talking after dinner, and Dave served up the Carrot Cake, which was a big hit, too.

Lisa’s grandfather couldn’t figure out why Bernie and Paul lived in the same house. Heh.

My ring!

I finally got my ring! I am so flippin’ excited! You may have read my earlier post about the stone and the ring. Well, it took several tries to find the right setting, but we finally figured it out.

Alba, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Day with Kerri

I met Kerri at the flea market this morning and ended up making a bit of a day of it. I bought a few purses and a few records: T.S. Elliot Reads His Poems and Robert Frost Reads His Poems.
We ate lunch, along with a bottle of wine, at Vic’s in the City Market and then perused Father & Son Antiques. I bought a nice bright green Tupperware canister there.

Now that I think about it, we should have bought a case of these. I mean, how priceless can you get? They were only $1 apiece. They’re labeled as “Squeezable Mimi Balls” but we all know what they really are. The best part is the warning label on the box: Do not hit with bat!
