Monica’s Here!
Monica and I hit the Hibernian last night for beers and dinner.
It was great because Monica fed Henry and that allowed us to stay out an extra long time. Monica is great with the baby!

Tricky Tricky!
We have a few squirrels that have gotten into our bird feeders.
Even though we have squirrel baffles on our poles, they’ve figured out a way to thwart us. First, they started jumping down from the gutter onto the poles, and then they learned how to jump from the porch railing onto the window screen onto the poles. *Sigh*
They’ve emptied our one “house-shaped” feeder so we keep it empty or filled with safflower, which fewer birds like.
Then they started feasting on peanuts from the peanut feeder.
And most recently, they’ve figured out how to circumvent our fancy squirrel-proof feeder. See?
Luckily, this problem is easily remedied.
Amy Visit
Yay! Amy drove all the way from the ATL to meet and visit with Henry.
It was a very short visit but it was awesome. Thanks for visiting, boo!! And congrats once again on your new job!
EASY
Yesterday Ele came over to visit. We spent some time chatting on the couch while the babies slept, then took a nice walk through the neighborhood.
I complained that I felt Henry was “snacking” too much, not eating enough at a sitting and therefore eating more often. She talked to me about Baby Wise and the Baby Whisperer. The basic premise of the theory is to put your infant on a loose schedule and to prevent them from drifting from nursing into sleep. She summed it up with the mnemonic E.A.S.Y.: Eat, have some Activity, and go to Sleep, which leaves a bit of time for You (the mom).
So I started to try the basic principles yesterday evening by keeping Henry awake for 30 minutes after he ate, then putting him down for a nap. He did great and had a three hour eating cycle and then a two hour eating cycle. He started his last feeding at 11 PM, which took an hour, and went to bed at midnight. He woke me up at 4.30 AM for his next feeding. That’s four and a half hours of sleep! and technically is a 5 1/2 hour feeding cycle! How lovely!
Of course, this morning he’s been a snacker and very, very fussy. Baby steps.

Big Changes
Holy moly! There have been some big changes at work! Five new hires and a departmental re-org. Sheesh! I hope they remember that I still work there.
How’s Henry?
Henry will be six weeks old on Sunday! Hard to believe isn’t it?
It all kind of runs together for me. He is still eating every 2-3 hours with his longest stretch at maybe 4 hours. There is still no established routine to his behavior though some trends are appearing. He is fairly awake/fussy in the early morning hours. He will take a good solid 2 hour nap in the afternoon. He eats better in the evening and best overnight.
So far we haven’t had these milestones: a full night’s sleep or a smile. Hoping for either or both of those soon!
Given how little continuous sleep I’m getting, I am very happy I’m not going back to work at the predetermined six week mark.
Will post more pictures soon.
