Sleep patterns

Filed under: Henry — JeniQ @ 8:22 am

Does anyone have any info as to why Henry can sleep for 2-3 hours during the day (effectively a 3-4 hour feeding cycle) but wakes every other hour at night?

  2. Maybe he sleeps too much during the day? I really have no idea.

  3. Hey Jeni,
David did that too for the first months. The doctors said that babies have their days and nights confused. What was suggested to me is that during the day have David sleep out in the areas where I was watching TV or making “average household noise” and then at night, have everything dimly lit or dark and talk in whispers. It seemed to work and by three months I could get him to sleep pretty much all night. Does Henry stay awake after his night feedings or does he go right back to sleep? David would stay up and I had to use different feeding techniques during the day versus at night.
Ooh Sorry for the long post 🙂

  4. My first thought was the “days and nights confused” thing also.

Do you drink any caffeine? If you’re drinking any later in the day that could play a part too. (I had one experience where I had 2 large Coke’s out at a restaurant with dinner, and Ian happened to have a restless night)

One other thing, he’s had the same bedtime schedule since he could take a real bath. Warm water with lavendar soap, then lavendar lotion, jammies, and one last nursing. And now, if too much time passes between any of those steps he gets very anxious. Like he’s telling me that he’s ready to go to bed and I need to get a move on it!

I’ll put my thinking cap on and let you know if anything else comes to mind!
