Even though I’m PC all the way and I can’t really stand Macs. How do you people live without right-clicking?

License Tag Makeover

Filed under: While Driving — JeniQ @ 11:22 am
North Carolina is having a license tag makeover! A recently instituted program has been initiated and the oldest tags on the road are slowly being replaced with the new tags, which feature red letters rather than blue letters. Learn more here.

Most important to remember: “Owners will be encouraged to take their old plates to license plate agencies for recycling, keeping them out of landfills.” So don’t be lame and throw your old license plate in the trash!

Here are a few examples I’ve seen on the road recently:

Speaking of license plates, I’ve seen two watermelon license plates on the road since I got mine – have you seen any?

Sunday Brunch to Celebrate Ele’s Birthday

Ele sweetly invited Dave and I to her birthday brunch on Sunday (Mother’s Day). We went to Humble Pie. She had cute little seating cards for all of us and was dressed in her fabulous new dress. She’s such a cute girlie-girl!

It’s been ages since I had brunch at Humble Pie, and it was tasty! We had a really nice time. We got to talk with Will’s mom and her husband, Will and Ele, Will’s little sister, and Molly and Matthew. We couldn’t really hear the rest of the table. I enjoyed talking with Molly and Matthew, they seem like a sweet couple. I learned that Molly sometimes reads my blog, so a shout out to you, Molly! 🙂

Why I like to skate

Filed under: Roller Skating — JeniQ @ 3:25 pm

One of the skaters that I keep in touch with via email sent this out. I thought it really captured why I love to skate. If you think I’m crazy for skating, it’s because you don’t know how good it feels to get out on the wood and slip into your groove, not thinking about anything else but the wind in your hair and the beat of the bass.

Courtesy of “Big Stopprz” out in CA:

I am an International Business traveler and in my travels I always make it my business to find something to do while I am in that city or country; this past September I was Jacksonville, North Carolina and ran into an old friend/Marine Corps alum “Chris Gaddy” at a gas station. We began to talk and I asked what he was doing and he told me that he was getting ready to go to Raleigh to Sk8. I told him that I wanted to go with him and so the new life of a Tru Skater was born.

Skating is like a drug, if you ever been addicted to anything then you will understand what I mean when I say I started and just couldn’t get enough. Skating to me meant opening my life to a whole new world of real people. Creating friendships and acquaintances that will be there as long as there is breath in my lungs. This meant that I could go to a function enjoy the atmosphere and not worry about getting into a fight or paying a huge bill for something I didn’t like. Skating is like going to a concert every week. For men it’s like going to a Miss Black America pageant and just watching (everybody don’t look like the Divas, but you know what I mean) all of the
lovely individuals of the female gender and for the women I sure it’s the same.

Being able to get away from it all and hear your song while you are on the hardwood, after a week of frustration at work, or at home, it just makes for therapy like you can’t experience in any other arena/genre except maybe a high priced shrinks office.

Now everywhere that I go I have to find a Roller Skating Rink, and almost everybody has one. And if they don’t I would drive to the nearest State just to “get my roll on”! Chris, King, all of the Carolina Cruisers, Monica and the Divas, have helped me understand and learn that adults can have fun all the time too. You just have to find your niche and go for it! It’s a world of passion that you would not understand unless you were a part of it and I owe it all to The Carolina Cruiser family and the Skate Ranch in Raleigh, North Carolina. I love you all more than you know.
I know I wrote a lot, but really…

IT’S A SK8 THANG YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND!

Sincerely,
Horace “Big Stopprz”

Dinner at Afrah’s

Filed under: Meals & Food — JeniQ @ 2:01 pm

Saturday night we met Belal for dinner at Afrah. Belal ordered for us, and we had this huge spread of food – I shoulda taken a picture but I was too busy eating. The food was amazing!
After dinner, we had Turkish coffee and smoked the hookah.

Saturday – BodyWorlds and Flying Saucer

Saturday morning Larry fixed these fabulous breakfast sandwiches – sausage, egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel. Yummy!!

Then it was off to Body Worlds for our 1:30 entrance. It was a very cool exhibit – we got to see all sorts of human bodies in various poses and different states of dissection, from muscles to organs. It was outta control and very interesting.

However, no photography allowed, so no pictures.

Then off to the Saucer for a “snack.” While there, I snapped a picture of Hiroe’s engagement ring – so beautiful!!
Then, we took a picture of this guy’s leprechaun shoes.

Dinner & Play

Friday night dinner was at Daddy Jacks – Larry and Hiroe and Dave and I met Grant and Michelle there. YUMMY! Really good seafood and fabulous service.

Then, it was off to see Wicked at Fair Park. Michelle was kind enough to drive us, and we all had uncomfortable shoes on so we valet parked. Once inside, we treated ourselves to champagne splits.

The show was awesome! It was really, really great! It was quite different from the book, but it was lovely. And Fiero is HOT!

We went to the Gingerman to visit the guys who were well into their beer drinking, but didn’t stay long. Instead of hanging out there, we stayed up late chatting. It was very nice.

I’m having a great time!

Weekend of Fun begins

I got into Dallas around 1 PM and we went out for Mexican lunch – yay!!

Here’s the view from Larry and Hiroe‘s apartment. It’s located in a tony Turtle Creek neighborhood.
Tonight, Hiroe and Michelle and I are going to go see Wicked. I can’t wait, should be fun! The boys will be drinking like fish while we’re at the play. 🙂

And tomorrow we get to see BodyWorlds.
